 fort jesus , located on the edge of a coral ridge overlooking the entrance to the old port of mombasa. it was built by the portuguese in 1593-1596 to protect their trade route to india and their intrest in east african.it was then renovated by kenyan government in conjuntion with sultanate of oman government by  april  2017. its renovation cost was over 500 million kenyan shillings .the renovation was supervised  by EMBASSY of  SULTANATE .

The chinese construction company worn the tender worth  sh.498 millions to construct a parameter wall that will prevent  the erosion of the fort.

fort jesus is the main historical site which most of tourists arround the globe come and visit. the project was onces opossed by controversial mombasa county governor  and national land commision  chairman mr swazuri bt as per now  the construction is half way
